Year end is here

Year end is around the corner and it is holiday time....after west has influenced our language, clothes and food, now we are influenced with our holiday time too...During my school days, newyear was never celebrated (only the chithirai first, tamil new year, was celebrated)...i have fond memories of going to church on the cold nights of December for Christmas...the infant jesus in the cattle, lighted with candles was a beautiful sight for the eyes...this is the time, they also used have volley ball matches in RC school (I do not know which one draws the crowd, Jesus or the volleyball)...

Went to Tanjore lastweek for a campus interview and i would say, it was not that good. I do not know whether my expectation has become higher or the students standard has gone down or the major IT players are taking the best performing students...what ever the case, i could not find good candidates. it is good to be student at this time, right? where in companies after companies coming to the campus to recruit and have a job secured even before completing the course...i still remember the campus interviews i used to attend in Bharathiar  university...none of them were successful...the one close i came to was Integra...

Went to Tanjore Big Temple...the moment you walk in, you start to feel that it is a place where the great kings of tamilnadu used to walk...it was majestic...i always have a feel that religion and politics go hand in hand...be it christianity or  hinduism or islam, the have complete integration to the politics...Infact, hinduism seems to be a lifestyle, rather than a religion...

It is refreshing to know there are so many things still in tamilnadu...i am going to start the car on thursday and going to have a big tour in tamilnadu...let us see how many places i can see...ofcourse, this time i would have the family constraints...but let me try this trip unplanned..

Took off from work today and not doing much at home...yet to finalise the tiles for house (i do not know, how many more times, i would visit the tiles shop before deciding)...went to look for a wheelchair for mom...thinking of that, not sure how mom (for that matter of face, anyone) would feel when they see the wheelchair...

Back from Management Essentials Training

Last two days I was in the Management Essentials Training conducted by consultants from Hong Kong...Now a days these trainings are all talking about how to make people feel comfortable, how to treat them fairly, how to empower them, etc...But, I always have a feeling that these management programs are becoming more and more treating human beings as machines...Of course, they do not say that explicitly, and in fact, they add that we need to always respect each individuals are different, etc, etc...In fact, they are talking now about flexible communication, i mean how to say "You are an idiot" in a nicer way...hmm...

There are positives, of course, and i am probably going to be benefitted in a way or two...

Other positive was to get to know more people (though i am in inautix for more than an year now), i know very less people (that is the problem, once you are sitting in a cubicle)...

Took my team out for lunch on 26th nov (yeah, on the black day, mumbai attack)...

Another Rainy Day and Attu is growing

The storm (Jal) was expected to bring more rain last week, however it did not pour. Today, it was a surprise rain and it rained through out the day...very happy...

last weekend Naveena (My niece) was here for her AIIMS entrance exams...i just wonder how she studies for whole of the day and 7 days a week...bought a bangle (should i say exchanged ???) and a ring for manju on the 14th Nov...Attu managed to convince her to to buy him two more beyblades (i do not know what made him to attract to that so much...peer pressure??)...

Attu is growing and it shows in his speech...he is no longer tentative...has clear likes and dislikes and ofcourse cutting tongues...not sure whether i should discipline him? if so, how should i ?...i do not remember speaking with that tone to my elders during my younger days...but times are different, aren't? I just do not know how people perceive things...Attu can argue now, of course always in his favour (btw, who in the world can argue in the opposite's favour)...he spends more time with his friends now a days...he understands the elder's talking and even the context...some times he interprets in a way he can understand too...kids looks kids to parents always...failing to understand their transformation leads to lot of problems...hope, i will be able to understand that.

Navjith (my nephew) moved out from my house to a mansion...i am sure he would be happy to be free from my naggings and java questions...freedom...to be...

Monsoon is here and Diwali is over

Yes....finally monsoon is here. Looking the rain through windows is never a boring experience...for that matter of fact, nothing in nature bores you as long as you attach to itself and feels like you belong there...Rain and thuderstrom expected to lash chennai for next two days...i hope it would do that...i am eagerly expecting that...

This diwali is celebrated in chennai...actually festivalas are mainly for kids, right...somehow, kids love the holidays than the festivals...whatever crackers i have bought, still lying in the corner of the room...attu is not interested in crackers at all...i still need to catch up with younger generation...

Gandhi Jayanthi

Went to kovilpatti for four days (from 25th sept to 29th sept)...went to vicky's daughter function on 26th...28th did the registration (name transfer of the documents) and went to tutucorin on 29th...morning drive back to chennai on 30th (in a nice climate - with rain and cloud)...

whenever i go to kvp, i get the feeling that i am the only one "not busy"....even the kids can not skip the school for a single day...so, our planned trip to coimbatore/kodaikanal did not materialise...tell you what, when you organise something try not to be democratic (but, i can not leave the habit)...

soaked in the kovilpatti sun (this time no sun in fact, it was raining or super cloudy...manju enjoyed it...no headaches for her, btw) for 4 days and it is always a nice feeling to be back home...

Due to the heavy driving (should i say i became a full time driver after i bought the vehicle) and the rainy weather i had to confront...caught up with cold for a week and recovering still...

i was really worried on 2nd october on whether i can meet my fasting commitment...luckily i managed to...this year was a tough one with heavy cold...thinking of it...how many times gandhi has taken fasting? did he ever consider whether his body can take it? Gandhi is becoming more and more relevant today...people really do not like to follow ethics...leave alone following, younger generation do not even seem to know what is ethics...everything is measured with money and it is time for the newer generation take a good dip in Gandhian thoughts...i need to do something about it...when and how is the question...btw...now a days i do not hesitate to say i quit non-veg after inspired by gandhi...in fact, i repeat it when ever a chance occurs...well, people do look at me as an alien...who cares...i want to remind gandhi to the newer generation as much as possible, in whatever way it is possible...

i am supposed to write a lot about mom...but not in this today...will allocate a day and write in tamil...till then...bye...

Ramya BD celebration

It was a surprise BD celebration for Ramya on the 19th sept, in Bose's house....Jeyaram has really made it as a surprise party, and, i believe, Ramya still wondering how was it possible...the cake was eggless, so managed to eat some of it too...it was a nice evening, though missed singh and dhanam...

Enjoyed the nice crispy (virudhunagar) parota prepared by Uma. had the same parota for the next morning too...not that Uma did not want to waste it, just that i liked it more than dosa...

was indulging in to Bose's investment calculations, detailed and scientific (should i say mathematic??)...you see, you never know how people get expertise in different areas...a chemical engineer talking about economy in detail...

later were discussing, the software for Ramya's apparels business...hope i can work on it more...

sunday (18th sept) fetched naveena from hostel and she was staying in our home till this morning (23rd sept)...

Sunday night went out for dinner and ....oh boy....i guess people are not interested in cooking on weekends anymore...long gueues, even to get a seat in velachery restaurants....thinking of good old days, when my mom used to cook 5 different dishes (we are 5 children for her) every day. not sure what motivated her to do that every day....i guess, she believed that is how life should be lived...in fact, she has strong views about each and everything in life...it became apparent to me only when she visited singapore (when she was walking fine, still)...for ex, she likes prawn and she likes மெது வடை....in singapore, they combine these too and i thought she would like it...she did not touch it at all...she never believed in bread and jam as food (for that matter of fact, most of us in kovilpatti do not believe that) and she always get worried that when i tell her i had bread and jam for the breakfast...it is very dishearterning to see such a strong person not able to do her own things on her own...i can not even imagine, how she would be feeling now...who said elderness is second childhood?

had h1n1 vaccines yesterday...its cost was 600 rupees per head...imagine, entertainment instruments like TV is freely distributed to the people and life saving drugs are not in reach for people...

Monday morning

Ganesa Chathurthi

Busy this morning (11th sept), helping manju for the ganesha pooja...went to beach in the evening to leave the ganesha...otherwise lazied around in the afternoon...was watching few movies...one is "kalavani" and the other one is "Goa"...finished the day watching "aviator"...after three movies in a day, i would like to say "tamil movie has a loooooooooooooooooooong way to go"....

"Inception" next on the list...will write about it after watching it...

I happened to watch "Rashoman", the chinese version, in singapore (do not ask me, when it was dubbed in chinese)...it is merely chinese subtitles...a chinese collegue helped to translate for me...i was dumbstruck after the movie...looking for the english subtitled one...let me know, if you can find...why i started talking about rashoman is, i read the "auto-biography" of Akira Kurosawa. he has written that "ஒரு ஜப்பானிய மீனுக்கு ஜப்பானிய ஆற்றிலேயே நீந்துவதே இயல்பாகவும் பொருத்தமாகவும் இருக்கும்".

Tamil movie makers do not seem to understand that...the only director who has been impressing me lately is "vasantha balan"...Ankkadi theru and Veyil stands out from the crowd.

My First Blog - Money does not buy everything

Thought of starting recording my life. It is not just the day to day happenings, but also the thoughts around it....

Start with day before yesterday (wednesday 8th sept '2010)...went to the hospital for manju, though nothing much to do there, as a responsible husband, i had to kill my time there...had to go to office after the hospital visit (though the time is already 8 pm)...thought of having a light dinner (now a days can not tolerate hunger) and went to a roadside shop for hot idlis...after eating saw a child (around 6 years), begging for money...he was with out shirt...just a half trouser...normally i do not encourage them...but this time, after my stomach full, i thought of giving some money...when i reached for my purse, he said "do not want money...please buy me food"...i told him, i will give him enough and asked him to eat anything like...his answer was shocking "they do not let me buy things in shop"....money does not buy everything...true?
